PCF 7x7 / 5x5 / 3x3 / 2x2 If you are interested in a sample, try here: http://mynameismjp.wordpress.com/2009/0 ... adow-maps/ It's for XNA but was super easy to get to work in DirectX, if you need help tell me |

Thanks, but actually Ogre handles the setup of the shadow frustum for cascaded shadow maps. I might use PCF for the soft edges, but I think I probably won't need to use depth tested shadows (for self-shadowing) so I can probably get away with just blurring the shadow map. |

![]() yay Wanna know the really cool part? it can sync online too as I edit it. Gotta boost the speed somehow though. |

Very nice! Looks like Havok has some nice debugging tools too. Shanee wrote: Wanna know the really cool part? it can sync online too as I edit it. So can you have multiple users editing the volume at the same time, for example? That would be cool Shanee wrote: Gotta boost the speed somehow though. The speed when editing online, or the speed in general? |

Nah, updating the Havok mesh causes a performance hit for some reason, need to look into it. I only just started with Havok. |

Ah, ok. When working with Bullet I had a volume of about 256x256x64 voxels (the castle in the video on the front page). It was broken up into chunks so that I only had to update the parts that had changed. It was working in realtime but I don't think I could have made the volume much larger... after that it would be time to look into LOD maybe. |

Yes, my volume is in chunks. right now 64x64x64, but I think it is a bit too slow updating that as well. How big were your chunks? I can try. Problem is I am also worried for having too many draw calls for the terrain alone if I keep getting more chunks as I get the size smaller. Another thing to keep in mind is that without Havok, the chunk update (even 64x256x64) was pretty much instant. |

I have to say I don't remember how big my chunks were. I would guess 32x32x32 but I can't be sure. You might also want to consider having a different chunk size for the physics compared to the graphics? Either you could run the surface extractor more than once, or you could combine several small meshes into a bigger one? |

I need to look into it, it is a bit complicated right now considering that everything is represented as an entity. I will see |
